Rapid Loader Bunker Floor Renewal

Hatfield Colliery

Coal is mined below ground and then wound 800m to the surface where it is stockpiled on the colliery surface.

Coal is reclaimed into the rapid loading bunker system; this consists of a vertical bunker and clam doors that quickly discharge into the freight liner trains.

Over many years of use and weathering the original floor had deteriorated into an unsafe condition.

Philford Design Engineers submitted and subsequently won a tender to renew the upper floor and supporting steelwork within the loading bunker building.

External stairs gives access to upper level; this houses the in-feed conveyor and coal sampling equipment.

Our Scope of works was to supply a new floor to replace the existing, without any interruption to the mine operations.

Philfords Design Engineers solution was to design a floor that would be installed 30mm above the existing and be self-supporting and independent to the existing floor. The structures of the conveyor and sampling equipment would be supported by the new floor beams.

Full on-site survey and modelling using Solid work software was completed.

Structural analysis was carried out to ensure the integrity and suitability of the proposed flooring.

The new floor was installed over a four-week period with no accidents or interruption to the mines production
