Philford Design Engineers has built an enviable reputation for quality and reliability since its inception in 1979. From purpose-built premises in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, we design and manufacture bespoke equipment with a vast range of industrial applications.

  • 2019


    Philford are successful in securing a tendered contract for upgrade and renewals of underground conveyor at a second UK Gypsum Mine.

  • 2018


    Drax Power award Philford their third Major Biomass Chute modification Project at the power station in as many years completing feed and material flow improvements.

  • 2017


    Philford where successful in securing a tender "Spencer Group" to manufacture over 200m of Gantries, Conveyor Structure & Trestles for the Port of Tyne Biomass projects Wharfe Conveyor.

  • 2016


    ICL Europe awarded Philford the contract to renew two of their major surface conveyors at the Boulby Potash Mine.

  • 2015


    Philford secure Tram Roof Safety Access Project at Nunnery Square Sheffield to implement safety improvements.

  • 2014


    Tender is won at Drax Power Station to complete the renewals and repairs of numerous Biomass Chutes on the Co-Firing Plant.

  • 2013


    Successful in securing orders to supply conveying equipment into the Russian Mining Industry

    Philford acquires the services of several additional time served UK Coal fitters and fabricators.

  • 2012


    Tender is won to supply new conveying equipment for the development of a new seam at Salt Unions Winsford Mine

    Third 18,000 sq ft factory is opened at Aldwarke.

    Philford win a tendered contract to renew numerous coal chutes on Drax Power Stations Coal Handling Plant

  • 2010


    Major tender is won to supply a new 1000kw conveyor for Maltby Colliery's main North East Trunk Conveyor

    Further investment in additional design office staff and Solidworks design software

  • 2009


    New vehicle acquired.

    Further expansion into new markets in the UK and Europe.

  • 2008


    Several contracts are won to supply equipment for developing new mines in Wales.

    Workforce continues to grow.

  • 2006


    Contracted to supply the majority of equipment for the redevelopment of Hatfield Colliery.

    Second 18,000 sq ft factory is opened at Aldwarke.

    Move to new 18,000 sq ft premises at Aldwarke, South Yorkshire.

  • 2002


    Win contract to supply 10,000 tonne bunker to Cleveland Potash.

  • 2000


    Michael Phillips takes over as Philford's Managing Director.

  • 1994


    Major contract is won to supply British Gypsum with four DSG conveyors.

  • 1992


    Philford expands into power generation and quarry industries.

    Achieve ISO 9001 quality standard.

    A second 17,000 sq ft factory is leased.

    Workforce continues to grow.

    Move to 3,000 sq ft purpose-built factory to accommodate rapidly growing workforce.

    Philford is founded to supply the coal mining industry, with just two engineers working from an old South Yorkshire Methodist chapel.
