The customer required their troublesome automated rope winch belt tensioning systems removing from service and replacing with low maintenance Gravity Take-Up Units.
Philford was requested to survey the surrounding steelwork and conveyor structure and investigate a suitable location that would give the required height to install Gravity Take-Up units to tension the conveyor belts.
Following on from the survey works we produced design calculations based on the supplied conveyor parameters to establish the required gravity weight requirements.
The gravity take-up unit was designed around free issue conveyor drums and pedestal bearings to maintain standardisation. Full fabrication work was carried out in house with the completed assembly being fully galvanised on completion to ensure resistance against corrosion.
Philford carried out the complete onsite removal of the old tensioning system and carried out the full installation of the new gravity take-up, conveyor drums, guarding and supporting structure.
