The customer required their C5 coal chute renewing as per their on-going chute replacement contract. C5 coal chute located at Drax Power Station in junction house 2 on the coal handling plant.
The specification for the chute was to receive material from conveyor no. 5 and deliver the material through three levels and feeding 3 conveyors lines; this was done with a series of flap valves. The flap valves were hydraulically powered and designed to control the direction of the material flow. The coal chute was fully lined with ceramic tiles to enable smooth flow of material and wear properties.
The chute is around 16m long, 1800mm belt width and a capacity of up to 3000TPH. Access platforms were required for maintenance access to the hydraulic flap valve rams, the platforms were designed into the chute.
The chute was located in the centre of junction house 2 with installation access limited. A transportation frame & bogey was designed to handle the chute sections, this enabled the site team to manoeuvre large sections safely.
